Schools and Education

A small percentage (3.7 percent) of Provo’s population have completed less than grade nine, and 6.8 percent have grade nine to twelve with no diploma. A little over 30 percent have some college but no degree, and 35.7 percent have a bachelor degree or higher.

Only 1.9 percent of the population is in kindergarten while 71.2 percent are either in college or graduate school.

There are five public and four private high schools in Provo, ten major public middle schools and three major private middle schools. About 14 public elementary schools service the approximately ten thousand children five- to twelve-years-old.

The biggest post-secondary institute in Provo is Brigham Young University with an enrolment of 32,554 students. BYU is a private, not-for-profit school that offers professional, bachelor, master and doctor degrees.

Another private, four-year university is the Stevens-Henager College of Business (800.622.2640) that offers bachelor and associate degrees in healthcare, computers, business, and graphic arts. Stevens-Henager College is for-profit while BYU is not-for-profit.

Several private, for-profit two-year colleges include Provo College (1450 West 820 North, 801.818.8900), Von Curtis Academy of Hair Design (480 North 900 East), Utah Valley Hospital of Radiologic Technician Technician (1034 North Fifth West Street), Bon Losee Academy of Hair Artistry (2230 North University Parkway, 801.375.8000).
